A Trip Down Memory Lane: Grandma’s House

One of the best parts of childhood is going to grandma’s house. I remember presents, the smell of fresh-baked cookies, and a $20 bill slipped in my hand with my grandma whispering, “don’t tell your parents.” It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear stories and get all the dirt about your parents, and get spoiled. I still get the princess treatment when I visit my grandma now!

It’s a place you can find some of the most embarrassing baby pictures of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. But most importantly, it takes you back to a simpler time when you felt safe and happy. Everyone loves to reminisce about being an innocent child. However, what you don’t realize at the time, is that these memories will be more cherished in adulthood when you realize your grandparents won’t be around forever.

This is a look back at the best parts of going to grandma’s house.

Danish Butter Cookies

My grandma wasn’t known for buying the best snacks. She always gave me dark chocolate as a kid or worse… mint chocolate! But her baking skills were incredible. There was nothing more delicious than her delicious brownies. Well, there was one thing… It’s that blue tin of Danish butter cookies!

Those butter cookies were so good, but for some reason, my parents never bought them, so I only ate them at my grandma’s. As it turns out, I’m not special, everyone’s grandma had these. What I don’t understand is why no one else had them. I mean, they were amazing. Now, whenever I just see the box, I get a warm, comforting feeling inside.

Gross candy

Even though my grandma gave me mint chocolate thinking I would like it, she never gave me these gross strawberry candies. Don’t worry, she is a grandma, so she always had them in the house, but I’m pretty sure she knew how awful they were. Now that I think about it, she probably thought it was a cough drop considering she only gave them to me when I was sick.

And who could blame her? They taste like medicine. This was definitely a grandparent’s thing; I don’t think anyone else goes to the store and chooses these out of all the different candy options. However, if you are one of the few people who actually enjoy these things, I bet you could find them at grandmas!
